[VERDESEC Archival Post 2 of 10]
Following the success of the recruitment challenge and the formation of a core team, we decided to strike while the iron is hot. To further hone our skills and foster a culture of learning and collaboration, we organized our very first internal Capture-The-Flag (CTF) competition.
This time, we promoted the exclusive event via WhatsApp and the newly formed Discord server. The challenges are designed to be a stepping stone for learning students, offering their first hands-on experience with CTFs in a supportive and harmless environment. To add an element of excitement (and encourage participation), we prepared multiple Steam game keys for the top 10 performers, turning the event into a fun and rewarding experience.

This event was aimed to serve as a training ground and confidence booster for participants. By tackling and solving the practical cybersecurity challenges stages by stages, we hoped that participants will gain experiences into the tactics and tools used in the field.
The response to our internal CTF was incredible. Participants dove into the challenges with enthusiasm, the fastest player managed to solve the whole machine within a day (almost everyone is still a newbie at this time). The scoreboard reflected the competitive spirit, with players racing to solve challenges and secure their positions in the top 10.

This event laid the groundwork for many more to come, solidifying VerdeSec’s mission to build and empower a thriving community of cybersecurity enthusiasts through hands-on, engaging experiences.
